Exciting Announcement for the Future of Edenwald!

Dear residents, staff, family, and friends of Edenwald,

I am pleased to share with you that Edenwald Senior Living and Goucher College have signed a letter of intent to explore the potential for our two organizations to jointly develop a University-Based Retirement Community (UBRC).

Interestingly, when the Edenwald campus was developed nearly four decades ago, it was built on land that was purchased from Goucher College. The two organizations share a long history, both having been founded in the 1880s. We have been great neighbors, and we are looking forward to taking our relationship to another level. We are proud that many Goucher College alumnae and faculty have already chosen to call Edenwald “home,” and we are excited to explore how our complementary strengths can engage even more seniors.
Specifically, our two organizations will be exploring the potential for developing additional residences immediately adjacent to Edenwald on land leased from Goucher College to create a fully integrated University-Based Retirement Community. This concept, where residents can take advantage of the academic, social, and cultural programming offered by a college, has gained popularity in recent years, with Lasell University, Notre Dame, Wake Forest, Stanford, the University of Florida, and many others having created highly successful affiliated senior-living communities. The concept integrates lifelong learning offered by the college or university with attractive residences, services and amenities tailored for active seniors.

As one of our next steps, Edenwald has contracted with Love & Company, a highly respected senior living market research firm, to conduct a survey of various potential constituencies, including alumnae and alumni of Goucher College and Peabody Preparatory; Osher Lifelong Learning (OLLI) members; and people that have inquired about living at Edenwald, to ascertain potential interest in this university-based retirement concept. We look forward to learning much more from this survey.

I will continue to provide everyone with regular updates as our discussions with Goucher College progress, and ultimately whether we decide to proceed with the development of a University-Based Retirement Community or not. Please stay tuned!

Sincerely,

Mark Beggs

President and CEO
